Sylvie Lobato / France / painting / www.sylvie-lobato.com

Sylvie Lobato, french painter of spanish origin, born in Paris in 1970. Lives and work in Paris.
"Painting the body in the 20th century is an attempt to retrieve that which history has set aside as fragmented and dismembered.
Sylvie Lobato's work uses this 20th-century body as a starting point, yet she manages to free the body from its carceral surface.
The artist bestows upon the nude its pure presence. As if torn from the prison of the canvas, the nude deploys a peaceful strength without darkening the two-dimensional surface with any hint of violence.
Instead of gauging the work as the heritage of expressionism, it is better to approach her work from the perspective of its lightness and its grace, carried by layers of colour liberated from any servitude to form. Here, the body is in process, it is moving, changing, and the viewer, in turn, is moved by this body."
